日本のAmazonは基本的に配送料は無料です。しかし、アメリカだと$25ドル以上の書籍もしくは$49以上の注文でないと、配送料が無料になりません。しかも、配達に5-8営業日かかるという説明になっています。

ウォルマート（WMT）は$50から、ターゲット（TGT）は$25からと、他の会社も多少差はあるものの、配送料金無料の下限は同じようなものです。Amazonにとって配送コストは売上の12.5%を占めるので、本気で取り組んでいっているようです。

アマゾンとエア・トランスポートのリース合意は、アマゾンがより早く効率的な配達を目指し自社の物流網構築に注力していることを示している。年末商戦などの繁忙期には遅配が起きるユナイテッド・パーセル・サービス（UPS）やフェデックス（FDX）への依存を、同社は軽減したい考えだ。

Prime会員になると大量の商品を買ってくれるというデータもあるようなので、物流コストをPrime会員費からまかないつつ、売上も上げていこうとしています。
